What's it like to work at pod?
Our five key roles
Sure, a passion for food, health and wellbeing goes a long way in this role, but an extra-large serving of personality and zest for life will do more than get your foot in the door. Team members make it happen at pod, preparing the food, delivering happy, genuine customer service and keeping our pod shops looking fresh, clean and inviting. This is where you’ll begin if you don’t have any previous experience. “I like the busy, fun environment and I have lots of friends. The work is challenging but very enjoyable and you have the choice to grow and progress inside the company. I felt really welcome when I first came to pod.” One of our Team Members in the 2014 staff survey.
As a Kitchen Team Leader you’ll play a crucial role in the day-to-day running of the food operation. You will contribute towards the success of your shop by producing great quality food and working as part of a team. You will make sure you and your team maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, safety and compliance with hygiene regulations at all times. ‘I am very passionate about cooking. I also enjoy working with my team. It is always a fun environment. I like challenges and the fact that I can learn from my manager and climb on the career ladder.’ One of our Kitchen Team Leaders in our 2014 staff survey.
These guys are full of ambition. They support the General Managers and in doing so learn first-hand how to run a pod shop. They make sure that everything from the quality of the food, to the environment and service is top notch and that the team are happy and working well together. “Every day at pod is different and brings a new challenge. I love helping other people and watching their skills with a responsibility for recognising potential in the team and putting people forward for promotions creating a buzz in my shop, and sharing my experience to get the best out of my team.” One of our Assistant Managers in our 2014 staff survey.
Our General Managers run their pods as if they were their own businesses. Natural leaders, creative thinkers, diligent multitaskers, sales hungry and with first class interpersonal skills - they’ve rightfully earned their stripes. Supported by the central operations team, they drive their staff and shop towards our mission of providing the very best fast nutritious food experience available and are rewarded when they do. We’re more than just a little bit proud that many of our managers have been with us since the beginning, starting as team members or baristas. “I like the challenge of making pod a better business. I have fantastic support from my dedicated team, and a great relationship with HR in head office who offer brilliant development opportunities. We’re an amazing company, and what’s more – my weekends are free and we throw great parties!” One of our General Managers in our 2014 staff survey.
Our Coffee experts. Coffee is serious business at pod. We either carefully train a keen team member or put newcomers who’ve had a bit of barista experience through a specially curated scheme, ensuring every cup we pour is the very best it can be. “I get asked for anything and everything from non-fat, regular, lukewarm, skim, soy, extra strength, “my usual”, double froth; I love the challenge of delivering the best coffee in London to my customers’ thirsty hands, every day. What really makes me tick is mixing together a perfect shot – caramel coloured top and a mottled chocolate hue with a perfect pitcher of milk – smooth, fluffy, white and flawless. I could talk for hours about tasting different blends, sourcing beans, the grinding process; I never get bored of coffee.” One of our passionate Coffee Champions in our 2014 staff survey.
Perks to working at pod
Some pod People Stories
“Joining pod was the best thing that ever happened to me. In 5 years I have learned how to be a role model for my team. I have achieved many certificates like Health & Safety level 2, NVQ team leading and soon NVQ in management, plus all my first aid certificates. Pod allows anyone to grow up though the company, I would recommend it to all my friends. Pod for me is family.”
“The best part of working at pod are the people I have met, the atmosphere is just great. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge on food, teamwork, customer service, and one of the best parts is having the weekends free.
